What about the Charr?

There are currently 4 Legions. Iron Legion, Ash Legion, Blood Legion and Golden Legion.

As far as the story goes, it appears that the latter (Golden Ladder) has been considered outcast by the others lately, could this mean we're going to only be able to play as a Golden Legion Charr? This is pretty weird considering that the Golden Legion was the one responsible for the "discovering" and worshipping to the Titans, but who knows what happened on the days that followed EotN?

I find this particularly intriguing as it wouldn't make much sense joining humans and charr in the same group for no apparent reason (which seems the case so far), and also nothing we know so far implies that the races are going to be rival (ala Kurzicks vs. Luxons, or WoW's Horde vs. Alliance thing)

Anyways, couple thoughts.
I would say the humans defending Ebonhawke are a standalone vanguard rather than a different race. From what I gather members of every culture of the human race, scholar, warrior and merchant alike, can be found in or around the area of Divinity's Reach.

We do have implications of rivalries and respect among the playable races of GW2. After doing some rereading I found that the Charr still want to "eradicate the humans wherever they fester on the face of the world", and even though they bicker and are separated by Legions, they work together.

The Asura, as I figured--or vaguely remembered, rather--believe they are "destined to rule the larger, less intelligent races of the world. [ They ] view other races as merely pawns to be manipulated in Asuran schemes." The Asura know their neutrality is vital to their ultimate goal.

Presently I want to play as a Charr, however if and when we see a male Sylvari that could change my mind.

Whats been said about the Asura really gives me the shivers, it makes them sound pretty evil if you ask me

I think Asura are impatient, rude and sarcastic. lol I wanted to strangle whos his face, Vekk's Father, changes my mind when he die, I think thats one good observation of the human realationship that is being implemented into the game.

I will definitely make a sylvarian first thing, when I get my hand on GW2, next would be a Charr, and human will have to see if they look any good. don't think I'll be interested in playing an Asura because I do not like the way they walk/run reminds me of penguin unless they have happy feet dances, otherwise it be the last choice, however I'll still make one just to make the game have a "complete" feel.

How come we don't get to play as destroyer? (just pop into my mind, be cool i think)

I would like to see what they'd make a dwarven female look like. In literature, they supposedly have beards too...>.>

You won't be able to play one and most of them are extinct,so you will be spared the torture

I'm quite interested in the Guild Lore, based around the inter-race contact between them all. Because all-in-all if its a human guild leader then surely there will be issues with Charr.
As I said I want to play as a Charr to start with. They treat guilds as Warbands, close knit groups of specialised warriors. They treat each other as family, when one dies they fight harder. Why would you not want to be a charr?

Dwarves... Easy for Anet, same armor for both male and female! Half the work

I love Asura... They look a bit like a mix between a penguin, a gremlin and my cat. How can you not love that?

I'd like to see Centaur added as a playable race in GW2. IMO they look very suwheeeet and would not be difficult to implement; if the connection with the friendly Centaurs in Turai's Procession was used, or perhaps something with Ventari? (not to mention Zhed himself) I've played several mmo/rpgs and I've never seen anything similar to a centaur as playable and I, for one, would love the chance to have a Centaur Ranger/Hunter type character.

Also, on the official GW2 Wiki all of the 5 races listed so far, except human, have several Characteristics: does anyone know if these will have anyone direct impact on skills and/or race specific abilities?

Just some thoughts - based on the current data (which is admittedly little) I'm thinking I'd go for Norn, Sylvari, Human, Charr, Asura - in that order.

Not only are Asura cute, I love their superiority complex, it just makes them cuter. My main will be an Asura.

On the other hand, I'll never play Charr. I don't even use Pyre. Still not happy about them ruining Ascalon.

The first thing I'm going to do when I get my hands on GW2, is see how all the races differ between the professions. We all know that humans in GW1 have different body types, faces, and hair styles depending on the profession so I want to see how that will play out in GW2.

Then I'll remake my main as closely as I can, create a charr and a sylvari (in that order). Maybe something else too, if it catches my fancy ^_^.

I wonder, it would make sense that whatever race your character is, will affect the race of your companion?

Does anyone know anything about this yet?

No, we don't know. We don't know anything about GW2, except abit of the storyline and the races. And how certain things will work, but very little.

Its probably just some concept of what they "could" shift into, they chose bear obviously

However, the only way I see this working, is like different colonies of Norn, so far we have only seen the shiverpeak Norn
What if they make tribes or families of Norn? One tribe could transform into werewolves, one tribe could transform werebears, another into hogmen B)
